As part of the global effort to End Tuberculosis (End TB), Caritas Tajikistan, with the generous support of the Stop TB Partnership (Tajikistan) within the framework of the its ongoing Tuberculosis (TB) Program and in close cooperation with the Medical department of Administration of the prison system of the MoJ and the National Center for protection of population from Tuberculosis (NTP), continues to contribute to the global effort to End TB.
From August to October 2025, systematic X-ray (fluorographic) and tuberculin (Mantoux) testing were conducted in several correctional facilities across Tajikistan. These preventive measures play a vital role in identifying TB at an early stage, enabling timely treatment and preventing further transmission among incarcerated individuals.
During this period, more than 6,979 people were screened using mobile X-ray units equipped with artificial intelligence technology, leading to the early detection of 19 new active TB cases, all of whom were immediately enrolled in TB therapy. In addition, 5,084 individuals underwent tuberculin testing, with 642 showing positive results and receiving preventive TB treatment (PTP) to stop infection from progressing into active disease.
These results highlight the importance of early detection, continuous medical supervision, and preventive care in controlling tuberculosis within closed settings. They also reflect the strong partnership between state institutions, health professionals, and civil society in protecting health and dignity for all.
