As part of its Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) program, Caritas Tajikistan, with the generous support of LDS Charities and in close partnership with local authorities, has launched a vital social project in Kafshduzon village, located in Khonaqohi Kuhii Jamoat, Hisor district.
The main goal of the initiative is to ensure access to clean and safe drinking water for the residents of Kafshduzon, who have been facing an increasing shortage of clean water due to the effects of global climate change.
To achieve this, the project involves drilling a deep-water well to provide a sustainable source of potable water. Before the start of construction, the State Committee on Geology and Mineral Resources conducted an assessment confirming the presence of adequate water reserves and the suitability of the site for drilling.
Drilling works began in July 2025 and continued through September. The newly completed 140-meter-deep 10’ well now supplies clean water to more than 700 households in the community. This initiative not only addresses the water scarcity issue but also improves hygiene, reduces the risk of waterborne diseases, and saves residents’ time and effort, as they no longer need to carry water from distant sources.
Community participation is a key component of the project. After the well becomes fully operational, local authorities and residents will take responsibility for connecting it to the existing water supply network and for the technical maintenance of the equipment and infrastructure.
This project stands as a powerful example of effective collaboration between NGOs, government agencies, and civil society, all working together to enhance living conditions and promote sustainable regional development.
Caritas Tajikistan expresses its sincere gratitude to LDS Charities and the local authorities for their invaluable partnership and support. The organization remains committed to improving the well-being of vulnerable communities by expanding access to safe water and better living opportunities across Tajikistan.
