Following UN SDG and WHO “END TB STRATEGY” Caritas Tajikistan’s (CT’s) health program is actively working on fighting Tuberculosis in the country. The organization targets the prison system population. Since 2020, CT is continuously implementing projects in this field covering the key aspects of TB work: prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of TB.
Last month the project organized training for the medical staff of PS on latent tuberculosis infection. The training is facilitated by NTP specialists and has covered 13 medical staff from penitentiary institutions located in the south of the country. Similar training was organized for the medical staff of institutions located in the north of the country.
According to WHO and some other studies, 20% of the world’s population had latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI). In this view, WHO and other global stakeholders of the field recommend mainstream work on LTBI to achieve those goals.
This project is realized in close partnership with the National TB program and the medical department of PS. We note that CT has more than 10 years of experience working in the penitentiary system with its health and social projects.
